• 1891
  11. April 1891: Gründung der Firma "S. Elster OHG" in Wien 5 mit den Gesellschaftern Johannes Ferdinand Siegmar ELSTER und Conrad Otto Ferdinand ELSTER.
  Gegenstand des Unternehmens:
  Fabriksmässige Erzeugung und Reparatur von Gasmessern, Gaskoch-, Heiz- und Beleuchtungsapparaten und Einrichtung von Gaswerken mit Anschluß der dem konzessionierten Gewerben vorbehaltenen Berechtigungen sowie fabriksmäßige Erzeugung von Elektromotoren und elektrischen Apparaten.
• 1950
  Ing. Franz Richter wird Geschäftsinhaber.
• 1957
  Die Firma "S. Elster OHG" wird in eine GmbH umgewandelt. Gesellschafter Johannes Siegmar ELSTER und Ing. Franz Richter.
• 1962
  Johannes Siegmar ELSTER scheidet als Gesellschafter aus.
  "ELSTER & CO AG" in Mainz wird Hauptgesellschafter. Ing. Eduard Forster wird zum Geschäftsführer ernannt.
• 1979  
  Übersiedlung von Wien 15, Felberstraße nach Wien 19, Heiligenstädterstraße 45. Ing. Gerhard Velek wird zum Geschäftsführer ernannt.
• 1987
  Nach der Pensionierung von Ing. Gerhard Velek wird Ing. Josef Franz neuer Geschäftsführer.
• 1988
  Ausscheiden der Fam. Richter aus der Firma.
• 1989
  Laut Beiratsbeschluß wird das Vertragsgebiet Österreich um folgende Länder erweitert: Ungarn, Rumänien und Jugoslawien. Gleichzeitig wird die Zweigniederlassung Gastechnic Wien des Stammhauses Straubenhardt in die Firma "S. Elster GmbH" integriert. Von Wien aus werden Handelsvertretungen aufgebaut.
• 1990
  Umwandlung von "S. Elster GmbH." in "ELSTER Gastechnic Produktions- und Vertriebs- Gesellschaft m.b.H."
  Gegenstand des Unternehmens:
  1a) die fabriksmäßige Erzeugung, Reparatur und Handel (von gas- und elektrisch betriebenen Koch- und Heizgeräten,) von Messgeräten für Gas, (Elektrizität und Wasser, von Elektromotoren,) von Apparaten, Maschinen und Geräten für die Einrichtung von Gaswerken. ***
  1b) die technische Beratung, Projektierung und Entwicklung von gastechnischen Anlagen.
  1c) Vertrieb von Produkten der Unternehmensgruppe der "ELSTER AG" in Mainz.
  2) Die Gesellschaft ist berechtigt, sich auf ähnlichen und zusammengängenden Gebiet zu betätigen und sich an anderen gleichartigen Unternehmen zu beteiligen. Die Gesellschaft ist jedoch nicht berechtigt, Bankgeschäfte zu tätigen.

• 1995
  Durch die Teilung von Jugoslawien in Serbien-Montenegro, Kroatien, Slowenien, Mazedonien und Bosnien-Herzegowina, wird die Vertretung von Rumänien abgegeben.
• 1996
  Das Kromschröder-Sicherheitsprogramm wird für Österreich (bis zum Jahr 2002 auch für Ungarn) in den Vertrieb mitaufgenommen.
• 2002
  Das Kromschröder-Sicherheitsprogramm wird auf Direktlieferung durch Hauptwerk Osnabrück umgestellt. Die Aquirierung erfolgt weiterhin in Wien.
• 2004
  Ungarn und Slowenien werden Mitglieder der EU.
  Beide Staaten werden weiterhin von Wien betreut.
• 2005
  Nach Kauf der Instromet-Gruppe durch die Elster AG kommt es weltweit zu Zusammenschlüssen beider Firmen zur Firmengruppe "Elster-Instromet".
  01. Juni: Umwandlung von "ELSTER Gastechnic Produktions- und Vertriebs- Gesellschaft m.b.H." in "Elster-Instromet Vertriebsges.m.b.H.".
  1. Oktober: Instromet B.V. GmbH in Wien wird eingegliedert. Gemeinsamer Firmenname ist "Elster-Instromet Vertriebsges.m.b.H.". Standort ist 1190 Wien, Heiligenstädterstraße 45.
• 2007
  01. Jänner: Nach der Pensionierung von Ing. Josef Franz wird Ing. Thomas Linzer neuer Geschäftsführer.

• Elster Liège a vu le jour en 1919 sous le nom de Cogégaz (Constructions Générales Electriques et Gazières).
  
  Pendant près de 75 ans la société acquière un savoir faire et une réputation dans le domaine du comptage et de la régulation du gaz naturel. En 1995 elle intègre le groupe Elster.
  
  Depuis le 15 juillet 2009, Cogégaz a fusionne avec les 2 autres sociétés du groupe Elster en Belgique et devient Elster NV/SA.
  
  Aujourd’hui le site de Liège se concentre sur 3 activités :
  
• La commercialisation des compteurs et régulateurs résidentiels sur toutes la Belgique
• Le comptage et la régulation industrielle en Wallonie et Bruxelles
• La commercialisation du matériel et la conception de systèmes pour les fours industriels sur toute la Belgique
• Elster Cogégaz c’est une équipe de 50 personnes au service de ses clients depuis plus de 90 ans.

• 1982
  Firmaet starter i lejede lokaler i Hjørring, som filial af det USA-baserede firma Singer Symaskiner´s kontor i København.
  Singer Symaskiner bestod af mange divisioner, hvoraf en var American Meter som i mere end 150 år havde beskæftiget sig med gasmålere og - regulatorer. Med basis i American Meters produktsortiment var grundstenen lagt til firmaets mangeårige leveringer til det Danske Naturgasprojekt.
• 1985
  Efter 3 år havde firmaet vokset sig så stor at det nu kunne stå på egne ben. Med det amerikanske selskab American Meter som aktionær blev International Gas Apparatur A/S med binavn IGA A/S stiftet.
• 1987
  IGA flyttede til nybygget industriejendom på nuværende Adresse.
• 1988
  I USA sker der en opsplitning af selskaberne i Singer-koncernen. American Meter bliver købt af det tyske selskab Ruhrgas AG, der primært beskæftiger sig med køb, salg og transport af Naturgas.
• 1992
  Der sker en stor omorganisering hos Ruhrgas AG. Der stiftes et nyt selskab, Ruhrgas Industrie GmbH, som skal drive koncernens industriselskaber. Et af disse, Elster AG, som siden 1848 har beskæftiget sig med gasmålere og -regulatorer køber IGA ud af American Meter.
• 1993
  Et andet selskab i koncernen, G. Kromschröder AG, stiftede få år tidligere et salgsselskab i Danmark, Gastechnic Danmark A/S. Det blev nu bestemt at forene de to lokale firmaer, så fra 01. januar 1993 blev alle aktiviteter i Gastechnic flyttet til IGA A/S.
• 1995
  IGA A/S er nu ansvarlig for hele Gruppens produktprogram i hele Skandinavien. Ud over egne produkter er det primært varer fra American Meter, Elster og Kromschröder.
• 2005
  Vort tyske moderselskab fusionerer med Instromet fra Belgien, og ændrer navn til Elster-Instromet GmbH. I samme anledning ændres også vort firmanavn fra IGA A/S til Elster-Instromet A/S. Vi får samtidig det fulde markedsføringsmæssige ansvar for Instromet´s produkter i Skandinavien.

The gas industry has developed in the first part of the 19-th century. Initially gas town started to be used for streets lighting. The first gas work in Bratislava was established in 1856.

In connection with the expansion of gas application it was necessary to start to measure the gas consumption by means of gas meters. The first gas meter was invented by the Englishman Samuel Clengg in 1815. It was a wet displacement meter. In 1820 John Maclam has patented the first dry gas meter and in 1843 Wiliam Richards designed a dry gasmeter with two chambers and valves. Gas meters on this principle have been using up to these days.

Gas meters production in the territory of Slovakia has started in 1922. The first gas meter was produced in the factory of the brothers Michera in Bratislava. After the World War Two the gas meter production was relocated to Považské strojárne (machine plant) and since 1952 it has been placing in Presná mechanika, n.p. Stará Turá. In 1965 the national enterprise Presná mechanika was incorporated in the industrial concern Chirana Stará Turá.

In 1992, in the process of privatization of the joint-stock company Chirana-Prema, a.s., the gas meters production was divided into an independent company named Premagas s.r.o. In 1993 the company Elster AG Mess- und Regeltechnik with its registered office in Mainz, Germany has become the majority owner of the company Premagas s.r.o. Since 2002, Elster is the sole owner of the company.  Company name Premagas s.r.o. was changed to Elster s.r.o. in 2007.

Production of water meters has started in 2005 and production of regulators in 2006.

Elster s.r.o. is now part of Honeywell.
